Cement
Cement is the foundation of every RCC structure, plaster coat, and masonry joint. TMT Steel Bars
TMT steel bars (Thermo-Mechanically Treated) are the primary reinforcement material in all RCC construction — columns, beams, slabs, foundations, and staircases. We stock TMT bars in Fe 415, Fe 500, and Fe 500D grades from 8mm to 32mm diameter, in standard 12-metre lengths and cut-to-length bundles for site convenience. Fe 500D is the recommended specification for seismic zones and earthquake-resistant construction. All TMT bars carry BIS IS 1786 certification. Frequently Asked Questions
OPC 43 Grade achieves a minimum compressive strength of 43 N/mm² at 28 days and is suitable for general construction — plastering, flooring screed, non-structural masonry, and light RCC work. OPC 53 Grade achieves a minimum of 53 N/mm² at 28 days and is specified for structural RCC applications — columns, beams, slabs, foundations, and precast elements where higher early strength and faster formwork removal are important. For most residential construction, OPC 53 is the standard specification for all RCC work, while OPC 43 or PPC is used for plastering and non-structural pours.
For residential construction in seismic zones — which includes most of Himachal Pradesh — Fe 500D TMT bars are the recommended specification. The "D" designation indicates higher ductility, meaning the bar can bend and absorb energy during an earthquake without sudden fracture. Fe 500D bars meet IS 1786 requirements for elongation and bend/rebend performance that standard Fe 500 does not. For non-seismic zones and light structures, Fe 415 or standard Fe 500 is adequate. Red clay bricks are the traditional masonry unit — dense, strong, and widely understood by all masons, but heavy, dimensionally variable, and poor thermal insulators. AAC blocks (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) are approximately four times lighter than clay bricks, dimensionally precise, thermally insulating, and easy to cut for openings — significantly reducing dead load on RCC frames, improving energy efficiency, and speeding up masonry work. AAC blocks cost more per unit but save on structural steel and plastering costs. For framed RCC construction of two storeys and above, AAC blocks are the superior specification in most cases.
For standard M20 grade concrete (the minimum specification for RCC in residential construction), the cement requirement is approximately 8 bags (400 kg) per cubic metre of finished concrete using a 1:1.5:3 mix ratio by volume. For M25 grade concrete used in columns and foundation in higher-load applications, the requirement rises to approximately 10 bags per cubic metre. BWP plywood (Boiling Water Proof, also called Marine Ply or IS 710 grade) is manufactured with phenolic resin adhesive that withstands prolonged exposure to moisture, boiling water, and high humidity without delaminating. It is the correct specification for kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, utility areas, and any furniture in contact with water. Standard MR-grade (Moisture Resistant) commercial plywood uses urea-formaldehyde adhesive that resists occasional moisture but fails under prolonged damp conditions. BWP plywood costs 30–50% more than MR-grade but is essential wherever long-term moisture exposure is expected.
